Our Lady of Peace Track and Field participates in the Suburban Parochial League (SPL). The SPL has twenty teams divided into three divisions based on school enrollment and roster size. OLP is in the small school division.
There are five meets in a season. Junior Varsity (Grades 5th and 6th) in the morning session, Varsity (Grades 7th and 8th) in the afternoon. Boys and girls participate at the same time but run separate of each other.
Our Lady of Peace Crusaders Track & Field participate in the Suburban Parochial Track & Field League. The SPL-TF site contains all of the information for meets, results and standings. Visit: http://www.s-p-l.org/
Each meet will combine both running events, sprints, distance and relays and field events, long, triple and high jump, shot put, discus and javelin. Each athlete is allowed to participate in up to four events based on the roster and number of events offered.
Practice starts March 12 at Waterfall Glen, moving to Hinsdale South Track on April 2. There is no practice over Spring Break. Due to availability of the track at Hinsdale South, practice days vary from week to week but are always 5:00 to 6:30PM unless noted.
High jump practices are held on Wednesdays in the OLP Gym right after school.
While all athletes are encouraged to attend every practice it is understood that there are other commitments throughout the season.
Please dress for the weather. Hinsdale South’s track is out in the open and is windy. The wind can make the air temperature feel 20-30 degrees colder than it is. For meets, the track uniform is a blue OLP Track and Field t-shirt. Athletes should wear their own shorts and have a decent pair of running shoes. SPIKES ARE NOT ALLOWED AT ANY MEET.
The SPL is run by volunteer coaches and parents. Parents will be required to work at meets as needed. Jobs will be assigned and explained prior to the meet.
OLP is growing quickly with our 3 and 4 year old preschool programs. They both fill up quickly. Be sure to register your child early to get a slot for next school year.
